Frequently Asked Questions
Advanced Booking
Q: Do you advise booking tickets for the tournament in advance or can they be purchased at the ticket office on the tournament grounds?
A: Yes, you can purchase all tickets at the ticket office at the entrance to the grounds. As soon as the number of tickets runs low, this information will be broadcast on the radio (for example on Bayern 3). The advantage of booking in advance is that you can pick your seat yourself and avoid the risk of only being able to pick from a limited number of seats still available at the ticket office. Also, with your ticket print-out you may proceed directly to the entrance without having to go to the ticket office first.
Printing Your Own Tickets
Q: I bought tickets online at www.ritterturnier.de/de/tickets.html, and chose to print the tickets myself. Do I have to exchange the print-out for an admission ticket at Kaltenberg?
A: No. The print-out is your admission ticket. The two bar codes on the print-out are scanned at the entrance, so make sure the print-out doesn’t get wet or the bar codes folded. To expedite admission, please have your print-out ready to be scanned at the entrance.
Ticket Refund
Q: Can I return my ticket if I cannot make it to the event for any reason?
A: No. As is the case for any event like this, tickets are non-returnable.
Ticket Exchange
Q: We already bought seat tickets online. Friends of ours would like to join us, but on another date. Can we exchange the tickets for tickets in the same category on another day?
A: As is the case for any event like this, tickets are non-exchangeable. This information is printed on the ticket in German.
Restricted Visibility
Q: Tickets in some of the first rows are offered at a discount due to “restricted visibility”. What exactly does that mean?
A: These tickets are for seats on the lower levels, and the wooden fence used as a barrier between the playing field and seating area can partially restrict visibility during some of the scenes.
Group Discount
Q: How large must a group be to get a discount and how high is the discount?
A: The group discount is for groups of 20 persons or more, the discount is 5,- € on all Fridays, 3,- € on the rest of the days (except standing tickets).
Pushchairs / Baby Carriages
Q: Are pushchairs / baby carriages allowed to be taken on the grounds?
A: Yes. However, pushchairs / baby carriages may not be taken into the arena. There are several places where they can be parked, please ask for the locations at the info booth at the entrance, at the main office (“Veranstaltungsbüro) on the main street or at the first aid station.
Bad Weather
Q: Will the tournament be cancelled if the weather is bad?
A: Kaltenberg is well-known for the fact that the event is not cancelled due to weather conditions. We advise you to wear sturdy shoes and take rain apparel with you in case the weather suddenly turns bad. Umbrellas are not very practical, especially in the arena, where they restrict the visibility of those sitting behind you.
Umbrellas
Q: May I take an umbrella with me to Kaltenberg?
A: Of course you may take an umbrella with you and use it on the grounds, as long as this does not bother other visitors. Umbrellas are not allowed in the arena, however, as they restrict the visibility of those sitting behind you.
Children
Q: How old must children be to attend the tournament?
A: There is no age limit, Kaltenberg is an event that is suitable for the whole family. However, we suggest not taking babies and children under the age of three into the arena.
You know your child best: if they tend to become easily frightened, we suggest waiting until they are older – although there are three-year-old fans of our Black Knight!
By the way, there is no entrance fee for children under 6 years of age. If you have a seated ticket for the arena, your child under the age of 6 may accompany you for free, but must sit on your lap. If you would like your child to have their own seat, you may of course purchase a children’s ticket.
Dogs
Q: Are dogs allowed in Kaltenberg?
A: No, dogs may not be taken onto the grounds. Please also do not leave dogs locked in your car, as there are no completely shaded parking spaces.
Weapons
Q: I would like to come to the tournament dressed in a medieval costume complete with sword. Will I be able to get in?
A: Unfortunately not. Kaltenberg is an event with a very large number of visitors, and naturally adheres to appropriate security measures. No weapons, real or fake, are permitted on the grounds. The only exceptions are medieval groups who have been hired by the organisers.
Costumes
Q: We are medieval fans and want to wear Middle Age attire to Kaltenberg. Can we get in free of charge?
A: Unfortunately not. Wearing a medieval costume does not entitle you to free admission. But you are welcome to apply to the organisers to be hired as an extra in costume.
Taking Photographs
Q: Is it permitted to take photographs on the grounds and in the arena?
A: It is not permitted to take photographs or make videos in the arena during the show (this included photographs and videos made with a mobile phone). Taking photographs and making videos in the other areas on the tournament grounds is permitted, as long as the pictures are not used commercially or in internet. Exceptions to this are photographers and film teams who have been approved and/or hired by Ritterturnier Kaltenberg Veranstaltungs-GmbH. A wide variety of information and photographs can be found on this website.
Opening Show
Q: Is there an opening show in the arena?
A: Yes, it begins about 30 minutes before the tournament. The opening show is different every year.
Supporting Acts
Q: The press often mentions supporting acts. What exactly does this mean?
A: The supporting acts take place on the entire grounds. Various shows and events are presented by up to 1,200 artists at the same time on various stages and on the grounds before and after the tournament. The supporting acts take place for a total of more than four hours. One of the highlights is a large parade through the entire grounds. The time schedule for the supporting acts can be found in the program flyer and is posted on several prominent places on the grounds.
Medieval Market Fair
Q: Is there a market fair at the Kaltenberg Knights’ Tournament?
A: Yes, there is a large medieval market fair with traditional handicrafts. It is known as being one of the nicest of its kind.
Entrance to Market Fair
Q: Is the market fair open even when the tournament is not taking place?
A: No. The market is part of the tournament and only open during event days.
